The Department of Music is very proud of the technological advances made during recent years. Every classroom, office, and practice room has been updated to cater to this quickly advancing aspect of music. The music technology lab is the most technologically advanced space in the Department of Music. The lab is equipped with 15 computer stations, each including a Macintosh® computer, a MIDI keyboard, a microphone, and Digidesign® MBox2. The lab also includes a surround-sound audio system and a touch-screen Smart Board®. The feature of the music technology lab is the Pro Tools® Station, which is equipped with a 24-track mixer. Several classes are help in lab, which include Introduction to Music Technology, Composition, and Music Seminar. Beginning Spring 2009, students will be able to learn more about music production in the new Music Technology Protools® class. Students may also use the lab for their own personal projects.

Students are able to transcribe music using the professional music notation software, Finale®, a software used in several courses, such as Orchestration and Instrumentation. Students are able to produce audio and video recordings using the latest in pro audio. Pro Tools® and Logic Pro® are among the industry’s leading pro audio software that are available to students. Reason®, another pro audio software, is also available to students. Students and faculty have access to a plethora of music through the Digital Audio Library via iTunes®. Each classroom is equipped with a Macintosh® computer station and a touch-screen Smart Board®. Both faculty and students benefit from the smart classroom.

The Department of Music is currently making advances in live web-streaming and podcasts of concerts, recitals, and seminars for all to enjoy.
