In the Fall Semester of 2010, Quinyae Sturdivant was given the opportunity to participate in the Spelman College Domestic Exchange program in partnership with The New School University Eugene Lang College in New York. During her studies, she was able to expand her knowledge of music in the areas of Jazz, Studio Engineering, and Music Business.
Ms. Sturdivant learned the true meaning of independence while in New York City. She was fully emerged in the "Big City" with so many different cultures and new places to explore. Ms. Sturdivant was elated and felt blessed to have had this opportunity to experience a portion of her academic career outside the gates of Spelman College. The New School allowed her to interact with students from all over the world and to experience a very "hands-on" approach to her academics.
Many life lessons were learned during her tenure at The New School and she was excited about telling her new colleagues at The New School about Spelman College. All in all, Ms. Sturdivant’s Domestic Exchange experience was wonderful but of course, there's no place like home. “I'm thrilled to be back at Spelman and I think all students should participate in a Domestic Exchange or Study Abroad program. The further we venture away from the Spelman gates, the closer we will be to changing the world.”
