Ms. Dillard made her debut with San Francisco Opera as Victoire in the world premiere of The Dangerous Liaisons (telecast nationally for Great Performances on PBS).  She has returned to San Francisco Opera to sing roles in Rusalka, Carmen and Manon.  Of her James Schwabacher Debut Recital presented by the San Francisco Opera Center, Joshua Kosman of the SF Chronicle raved by stating, “Dillard,…turns out to be a forceful presence – both regal and vivacious with a winningly rich hued voice to match.”


Ms. Dillard made her professional operatic debut as Irina in Lost in the Stars with Boston Lyric Opera staged by dancer/choreographer Bill T. Jones.  She returned to Boston Lyric as Ursula in Béatrice and Bénédict and Meg Page in Falstaff.   Ms. Dillard caught the international attention of critics for her stunning portrayal of the title role in Opera Theatre of Saint Louis’ production of La Belle Hélène. She has also appeared as Meg Page in Falstaff and Suzuki in Madama Butterfly for Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. Ms. Dillard has also sung roles with Atlanta Opera, Opera Carolina, Opera/Columbus, Tulsa Opera and Western Opera Theatre.


Ms. Dillard’s most recent engagements include, Bernstein’s Jeremiah Symphony No. 1 with the Brooklyn Philharmonic; concerts with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) with Robert Spano and Jere Flynt conducting and Messiah for Clark Atlanta University.  Upcoming engagements include Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with ASO for the 2007 annual King Celebration Concert with Robert Spano conducting.  Last season she was heard as Lily in Porgy and Bess for Atlanta Opera, Anita in West Side Story with ASO during their 2005 summer concert series; she was presented in recital for Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia; in Atlanta area concerts during the William L. Dawson Celebration at Emory University and during the 2006 King Celebration for Morehouse College.  She was also the guest artist at Benedict College in Columbia, S.C. during the recent celebration of George Walker, American composer and recipient of a 1996 Pulitzer Prize for Music.  During the 2005 holiday season, she sang Messiah in Cambridge, Massachusetts and in a New Year’s Eve gala concert in The Highlands, North Carolina benefiting the Children with Aids in Dar Es Salam, Tanzania.


On the concert stage, Ms. Dillard has appeared with symphonies across the United States including, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Saint Louis Symphony, Colorado Symphony, New Haven Symphony, Pacific Symphony and Marin Symphony Orchestras among others. Ms. Dillard was the featured soloist in Alexander Nevsky for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and returned the following season to sing the title role in Carmen. She was presented in concert with the Boston Pops Orchestra in a tribute concert to the centenary of the birth of Marian Anderson. In recital, she repeated a tribute performance to Marian Anderson for Onyx Opera of Atlanta. She has sung under the baton of great conductors such as, Grammy nominated composer John Williams, Seiji Ozawa, Keith Lockhart, Donald Runnicles, Robert Spano and Yoel Levi.


Pamela Dillard, a native of Atlanta, Georgia is an Adjunct Professor of Voice at Spelman College in Atlanta.  She earned her B.F.A. from Newcomb College of Tulane University where she received a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship, which provided her a year of travel and study in Europe.  She is the recipient of the Martin Luther King Graduate Fellowship at Boston University, where she received her M.M.   Her many awards include a Richard Gaddes Fund Award for Young Singers from Opera Theatre of Saint Louis and a Richard Strauss Opera Study Award from the San Francisco Opera Center where she was a member of the Merola Program.


Ms. Dillard can be heard on Watch and Pray, Spirituals and Art Songs by African American Women Composers produced by Koch International Classics.   Other recordings include the featured soloist for the Grammy nominated soundtrack to Stephen Spielberg’s Amistad; William Grant Still’s Highway One for Visionary Records; Superhero for Brian McKnight and Preschool Favorites by Music For Little People.
